About me

Rotraut Jäger was born in Saarbrücken and has lived in Zurich since 2007.
She studied flute at the Peter Cornelius Conservatory of the City of Mainz (State Music Teacher Examination 2000, Artistic Maturity Examination, 2002), at the Zurich University of the Arts (Concert Diploma 2006 with Philippe Racine, Jazz Studies 2003-2006 with Günter Wehinger and Christoph Grab) and at the Manhattan School of Music (Jazz Studies 2006-2007 with Dick Oatts and Steve Wilson). During her studies, Rotraut Jäger repeatedly took part in workshops and master classes, among others with Peter Lukas Graf, Robert Dick, Michel Debost and Moshe Epstein. She also attended various jazz workshops, including Música Popular Brasileira in Brazil, and further training with Ali Ryerson, Frank Wess and Dave Liebman in New York.
The freelance musician is active both with her own projects and as a guest musician at home and abroad. She has performed with Miles Griffith (voc, US), Earle Davis (tp, US), Roland Gebhard (g, DE), Vicente Cortes (g, CH/ES), Karime Amaya (flamenco dance, ES) and The Skatalites (JAM), among others.
In 2020, she released her first album with her band Sonambique and performed at La Côte Flûte Festival (CH), Jazzclub Bamberg (DE) and Abbaye de Neumünster (LUX), among others, as part of the release tour. Furthermore, a television portrait was broadcast on ARD and contributions on Radio Tide (Hamburg) and SR2 (Saarbrücken).
Rotraut Jäger also gives private flute lessons and conducts various ensembles and workshops.
