About me

Nicolas Corti studied viola at the Zurich Conservatory with his father Ottavio Corti (teaching, orchestral and concert diploma). Corti completed his skills with Emanuel Vardi (principal violist under Toscanini in the NBC Orchestra) during a one-year study visit to New York.
Under Paul Sacher he played for 15 years in the famous Collegium Musicum Zurich.
In 1982 he founded the Amati Quartet, which in its 28-year existence has made an outstanding name for itself internationally with countless concerts worldwide, more than 30 CD recordings and various prizes. Quintet partners such as Krystian Zimerman, Bruno Canino, Karl Engel, Rudolf Buchbinder, David Geringas, Steven Isserlis, Eduard Brunner, Paul Meyer, Karl Leister, Bruno Giuranna, Gérard Caussé, James Galway expanded the musical horizon considerably.
Memberships in various chamber music ensembles, each of which makes very different sound combinations and repertoire wishes possible: in the Pianova piano quartet, trio with Töbi Tobler (dulcimer and Franziskus Abgottspon (speaker), “folk music” concerts with Claudia Muff, Töbi Tobler and Nadja Räss, solo concerts and performances in duo with piano (with See Siang Wong) at home and abroad underline Corti’s versatile activities.
Since 1996 he has held a professorship for viola and chamber music at the Zurich University of the Arts (www.ZHdK.ch).
From 2005 to 2021 he was solo violist at the Musikkollegium Winterthur.
